Erase files you never want recovered — and know exactly what's guaranteed.
SecureErase overwrites and deletes files, wipes free space and cleans leftover traces on Windows 11. Before anything runs, it tells you what will happen on your drive type, and what no software can promise.
Windows 11 (64-bit) · No credit card for the trial · Version 1.1.0
Everything you need to get rid of data properly
Nothing is erased until you review the preview and confirm by typing the number of files. Want to try first? Run any operation as a simulation that changes nothing.
File & folder erasure
Renames, overwrites, verifies by reading back, then deletes. Handles read-only and hidden files, alternate data streams and paths longer than 260 characters.
Free-space wipe
Overwrites what's left of files you already deleted the normal way, on NTFS, exFAT and FAT32 — then removes every temporary file it created.
Leftover traces
Finds temporary files, your Recycle Bin and recent-items lists, and sends what you pick to the same safe erase process.
Encrypted vault
Keep sensitive files encrypted with AES-256, protected by your PC's TPM chip. Destroying an item rotates the key, so old copies become unreadable.
Built-in safety
The system drive, Windows and program folders are protected. Links, hard-linked and locked files are refused instead of guessed at.
Honest reports
Every operation produces an HTML and JSON report with each step, any skipped items and the limits that apply. It never reports success for partial work.
What can — and can't — be guaranteed
Most erasure tools don't tell you this. SecureErase shows it for every operation, based on the drive it detects.
| Drive | Overwriting a file | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Hard disk (HDD) | Effective in most cases | Data is written back to the same place on the platter. |
| SSD / NVMe | Not guaranteed | The controller writes to new cells and keeps hidden spare space no program can reach. Use the encrypted vault for files you'll want to destroy later. |
| USB stick / memory card | Not guaranteed | The controller is a closed box and usually has no TRIM. |
| Any drive | Known limits | File names can remain in file-system journals, shadow copies may keep old versions, and Windows search may have indexed names. |

Is it safe to try?
Yes. Every operation shows a full preview first, and real erasure only starts after you type the number of files to confirm. To try without changing anything, tick "Run this operation as a simulation" in the operation, or turn on simulation for all operations in Settings.
Can SecureErase guarantee an SSD is clean?
No software can, by overwriting files. SecureErase tells you so up front. For an SSD you're about to sell or dispose of, use the drive maker's secure-erase tool or full-disk encryption; for files you'll want to destroy later, use the encrypted vault.
What data does the app send?
Only what licensing needs: a one-way hash of a device identifier, plus your license key when you activate or renew. No file names, file contents or personal data. See the privacy policy.
Can I use it offline?
Subscribers can work offline for up to 7 days; the app re-checks the license every 6 hours when online. Starting the free trial needs an internet connection.
Can I get a refund?
Yes — see the refund policy.
Can I erase the Windows system drive?
No. Free-space and whole-drive operations are never allowed on the system drive, and Windows and program folders are always protected.
